Providing a Fully Immersive Experience of the Rich Tapestry of Culture, Talent, History & Artefacts in the Region
The Granite Belt Art and Craft Trail opening night was held Friday 19 October Stanthorpe Regional Art Gallery.
Over 100 invitees attended, including speakers James Lister, Member for Southern Downs, Lady Mayoress Tracy Dobie and acclaimed bronze sculptor Phillip Perides.
Function attendees were entertained by music on grand piano by Morwenna Harslett as artisans, supporters and local dignitaries mingled.
GBART organiser and event MC Rosy Chapman says,
“We were thrilled to have Phillip Perides as keynote speaker on the night. Phillip is a fine realist bronze sculptor renowned for his military works. He has just been commissioned to create a bronze sculpture for Stanthorpe called Woman with Child. It will commemorate the role local women played in World War Two.
“Phillip spoke about the importance of engaging youth in artistic studies and what it can mean for economic development in rural areas.
“It can create new employment opportunities and build a more balanced demographic in rural areas.
“Arts and cultural tourism makes a significant contribution to community wellbeing. Engaging in creative activities is a wonderful opportunity to strengthen and heal both individuals and communities:
“The Granite Belt Art and Craft Trail is a chance to show our community resilience and the great services, businesses and opportunities within our region.
The Granite Belt Art and Craft Trail – Open Studios Event is providing a fully immersive experience of the rich tapestry of culture, talent, history and artefacts in the region over two huge October weekends.
