Crank’d Socks at Suttons - Danielle Hannigan
Using replica and antique hand-cranked circular sock knitting machines, Dani creates bright and warm merino socks. The technology for the machines has remained relatively unchanged since the 1870s, and creates beautiful and comfortable socks to this day!
Although the technology hasn’t changed, modern yarns provide a colourful addition to the art, commercially blended and dyed yarns keep socks bright and strong for many years, without needing to darn.
In addition to creating wearable artistic socks, Dani also dyes merino, silk and bamboo yarns, the rainbow of colours allowing others to make their own ‘slow’ fashion, and keep the traditional crafts alive.
